Photo by @FransLanting How do elephants sleep? Most of the time standing up and only once in a while lying down it seems and and then for short naps only. Elephants sleep just a few hours every 24 hours, less than any other mammal it appears. In all the years I’ve documented them, I’ve rarely seen elephants in the wild sleep on the ground during the day, but once in Zambia I spotted this unusual behavior. A female lying down covering one eye with a big floppy ear to shield her face from heat and light. If any of you have seen this too, I’d like to hear from you.
