Photo by @FransLanting Elephants were hammered hard in Zambia during the previous poaching holocaust in the 1970s and 1980s. Their population plummeted from 250,000 in the 1960s to fewer than 18,000 in 1989. Since then they have rebounded slowly. These days impressive gatherings can be seen again on the floodplains of the Luangwa River. In this image you can see long lines of buffaloes mix with elephants as they come to drink from the river at twilight.
