After weeks of false starts and never-ending nor’easters, spring has finally come to the Garden! To mark the occasion, Todd Forrest, our Arthur Ross VP for Horticulture and Living Collections, has a special message for you:⠀
“‘Spring will be a little late this year’—so sang American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan. It’s a sentiment shared by NYBG gardeners and anyone else longing for the overdue vernal display of flowers, but all hope is not lost. With the threat of the last frost now likely behind us, our favorite flowering trees are poised to branch out into the warming spring air. We are buoyed by the sight of the first cherry and magnolia blossoms, which have just started to open. Early spring bulbs such as squill and glory-of-the snow are in peak bloom right now in the Rock Garden and Perennial Garden. They will soon be followed by waves of bright, cheery daffodils, which are emerging throughout the Garden.”
