For a week each year, a city pops up in a Nevada desert, a place where there are #NoSpectators.
Our @americanart’s #RenwickGallery has brought the art of Burning Man—the event and cultural movement—to the nation’s capital for the first time. The new exhibition takes over the entire building with immersive room-sized installations, jewelry, costumes and the large-scale artworks Burning Man is known for, along with photos and archival materials that document its growth over more than 30 years.
For “Deep Thought” and the other pieces that fill this gallery, Yelena Filipchuk and Serge Beaulieu (the artist duo behind studio HYBYCOZO) pair hard geometric surfaces with soft interior illumination. “#NoSpectators: The Art of Burning Man” is on view in its entirety through Sept. 16, with some works staying up through Jan. 21. ?: Rob Blunt
