What are you looking at? ? It’s a microscopic image of a tree, specifically Populus tremuloides (aka quaking aspen), the most widely distributed tree in North America.
You can find the species from Canada to central Mexico, and its fuzzy flower clusters (called catkins) come in early spring.
This is image from our @smithsoniannmnh’s wood collection, which contains about 42,500 specimens. You can see a sample of the microscopic images in the museum’s #ObjectsofWonder exhibition. #SciArt
