Image by @Joel Sartore | This is Halsey, a great horned owl that was rescued by Raptor Recovery Nebraska (now a part of @fontenelleforest) after a severe head injury in 1997. After being hit by a car, the team at Raptor Recovery nursed him back to health and, when he finally recovered, he had lost all of the aggressive parts of his personality that are so characteristic of this species. Instead, he became very sweet and even hoots frequently, much to the delight of the thousands of school kids he's met over the years. Halsey has also helped to foster many young owls, and continues to be a wonderful ambassador for his species.
