Photo by @Cristina Mittermeier // A Weddell seal wakes up from its afternoon nap as I silently approach its floating ice bed by kayak. The Antarctic Peninsula is an important area for animals like seals, whales and penguins to breed, rest and feed on the abundant krill populations found here. Wildlife must compete with a large fleet of vessels from countries like Norway and China, whose industrialized fishing fleet sucks millions of pounds of krill used in Omega 3 supplements and fish farm feed. I took this photograph as part of a @ナショナルジオグラフィック and @Sea_Legacy expedition to call for the protection of the waters surrounding the Peninsula so that wildlife has a better chance to thrive.
