The war in Syria has just entered its 8th year. More than 400,000 people have lost their lives, with 5 million seeking refuge abroad and over 6 million displaced internally since March 2011, according to the latest report from Human Rights Watch.

Mothers at the martyrs section of Kobani's cemetery for a burial ceremony of two self-defense soldiers who died after stepping on a mine in Raqqa. I recently returned to Syria, and while working in Kobani I noticed 24 more graves lined up ahead of those two buried the day I took this photograph, in September last year.
