A lone #OchreSeaStar feeding in a shallow tide pool in #olympicnationalpark. In recent years Sea Star numbers have been declining rapidly due to an immune deficiency called sea star wasting disease. This disease is primarily attributed to rising temperatures in our oceans driven by #ClimateChange. Sea stars are keystone predators, feeding on mussels, crustaceans and barnacles within the tide pools. They are critical in keeping balance within the competitive real estate within these micro ecosystems, similar to the importance of wolves and mountain lions in the wild.
