Women's month acknowledgements continue today with some young women who are fighting for women’s rights today.
Balkissa Chaibou of Niger - Balkissa dreamed of being a doctor but at age 12 learned she had been promised as a bride to one of her cousins. With the help of her school principle, Balkissa worked with the Center for Judicial Assistance and Civic Action, which took legal action against her father and uncle for forcing her into a marriage she did not want. Her uncle denied the accusations and the case was dropped from court, from which he threatened to kill her after the case dismissal. Balkissa sought refuge in a shelter and eventually went back to school. She is now on her way to being a dr. and campaigns for other girls against forced marriage. #womensmonth #truewarriors #brave #socialchange #equality
