Prepare to be dazzled by the colors of the male golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus). You probably won’t see these birds flying around your town because 1) they are native to the mountainous forests of western China and 2) they are not great flyers, only capable of short trips through the air! Spending the majority of their time in the shade of the forest floor helps to preserve their colors, as excessive amounts of sunlight can fade their vibrant hue.
