The “kleftiko” dish at @merakianyc is derived from a history of Greek mountain dwellers who would steal lamb and cook the meat in hidden underground ovens in order to avoid being caught (FR’s @themostcuriousgeorge is Greek but swears he has never done this.) The slowly cooked lamb is served with a mixture of Greek cheeses, herbs and spices and presented in round karveri bread. A unique hit in a beautiful Greek restaurant full of ‘em! #fravorites
