You may have heard or seen the name rise up into the mainstream recently, as the last few months have seen Greta move from Indie film icon to the 5th woman ever to be nominated for the ‘Best Director’ Oscar.
Prior to this, Greta was known as an actor in a variety of films of underground films like ‘#FrancesHa’ or ‘#20thCenturyWomen’. But in the last few months she had broken through the stereotype of eccentric Indie favourite with a personal film she has nurtured from beginning to end, and in doing so has helped level the playing field for gender in the industry.
The film is ‘#LadyBird’, and it has achieved nominations for five Oscars, two Academy Awards and a Golden Globe for Best Picture. The semi-autobiographical piece also spent time with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Whilst this must be a huge achievement on a personal level for the director, you can’t help but see what a great achievement this is across the industry. We have a long way to go yet, but the last year has been an immense catalyst to level the playing field. Culture should be algender.

It’s recommendable to take some time to see the beautifully shot and emotional film ‘Lady Bird’ if you get the chance.
