Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri of Blondie ; today is 38 years since the release of 'Call Me'. ⠀

Composer Giorgio Moroder was working on the soundtrack for the film "American Gigolo' when he approached Blondie to collaborate on the song together for the film. Moroder is better known for producing most of Donna Summers disco hits, as well working with other musicians like Sparks, David Bowie, and the songs 'Take My Breath Away' by Berlin and 'Flash Dance/What a feeling'. A disco-virtuoso and that certainly comes across in 'Call Me'. He originally approached Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame to work with on the song, but fortuitously settled on Blondie. Debbie wrote the lyrics to the song in only a few hours, though looking back Giorgio has stated that found it difficult to work with the temperamental Punk band, as the guys were prone to arguing with each other. Still, it wasn't long before the legendary New Wave Disco-Punk song was charting at No.1 across the globe. ⠀
