One of my favorite musicians of all time has died. Hugh Masekela was a champion of human rights and used music as his weapon to battle victoriously against the Apartheid system in South Africa. His instrumental song Grazing In The Grass hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. The band and I have spent many late nights on our tour bus loudly singing his song “Send Me”(Thuma Mina) and have recently covered it in several shows. It’s lyrics “I wanna be there when the people start to turn it around, when they triumph over poverty, I wanna be there when the people win the battle against AIDS, I wanna lend a hand, I wanna be there for the alcoholic, I wanna be there for the drug addict, I wanna be there for the victims of violence and abuse, I wanna lend a hand, Send me...” have never been more needed. Blessings to his son @salmasekela and the rest of his family. You will be missed and remembered forever in song. #RIP #hughmasakela #southafrica #music #legend #musician #warrior #stayhuman #powertothepeaceful
