In the times of the Mughal Empire this port became a hub for the European traders for its strategic river location, the city that formed around it was nicknamed the Venice of the East. Today this bustling port located in the southern part of the city services up to 100,000 people daily. As I stood on top of a triple-decked ferry and watched the boats traverse back and forth sliding smoothly across the river, I felt a moment of serenity in the city with the highest population density in the world.
