As we waited to bid farewell to the year, I threaded the view of my lens through dense foliage to catch a glimpse of this adult gorilla as it took a nap in the cool rainforests of Volcanoes National Park, in Rwanda. Nature-based tourism is a huge part of the conservation success in this country. Clean, well-organized, populated by hard-working, polite people, it is hard to believe that less than 25 years ago, this beautiful country was the setting of one of history’s most brutal genocides in which close to 1,000,000 were killed. Today, there is an air of peace and prosperity in this beautiful country, and that gives me hope for the world. Happy New Year to all!
