Photo by @nickcobbing A light-mantled sooty albatross, photographed in flight off the coast of the island of South Georgia (in the southern Atlantic Ocean). These birds are often seen circling ships at sea, which is how I made this picture -standing at the rail. They look incredibly effortless in flight, soaring on the wind. Of all the birds in the albatross family, many consider this one to be the most beautiful. They breed on the cliffs around South Georgia, laying eggs in October and November. It’s been a great trip just now, onboard the @natgeoexpeditions ship The Orion. Introducing our guests to the incredible landscape and ecosystem of #Antarctica.
