They’re lurking in toilets. ? They’re swimming in the streets. ? In Bangkok, #snakes are taking over. The Thai capital has always been rich in reptiles, but wet weather and urban growth are creating more snake-on-human encounters of an unpleasant kind. Consider Panarat Chaiyaboon’s experience: She was using the toilet at home when she felt a sharp bite on her thigh. She jumped up to see a scene straight out of a #nightmare: an 8-foot python emerging from her toilet. That snake was captured. But a week later, her daughter found another python in the same toilet. As of Monday, the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department had received 31,801 calls this year for help in removing snakes. Most of the rescued snakes are eventually released in the wild. And it’s worth noting that, while some are venomous, they’re not all bad. “Stories of snakes invading homes always sound scary, but as long as you don’t provoke them, they won’t hurt you,” said Prayul Krongyos, the fire department’s deputy director. @amandamustard photographed rescued pythons in a cage. Swipe left if you’re not afraid of snakes. #?
