The village of Khumjung at 12,400 ft in the Khumbu (Mt Everest Region) of Nepal. Khumjung in the cultural center of the Sherpa culture and also the location of the biggest school. It’s crazy to think of the effect mountain climbing and tourism has had on this place. When @freddiewilkinson @jetbutterflies and I interviewed the Tengboche Rinpoche, the highest religious figure in the area, who has lived here since the first westerner showed up, he said “Mountain climbing is greed, I don’t know why we have allowed people to climb Chomolugmna (Everest). It should have been off limits to climbing in the first place”. Not all Sherpas feel the same way and continue to climb despite the high risks. It has given a lot of them and their families great wealth in comparison to the rest of Nepal. #nepal #nepaliloveyou #everest #khumjung
