Princess Alexandra, Patron of the PDSA, has presented dog Mali with the prestigious PDSA Dickin Medal – the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

Mali, a Belgian Malinois, has been recognised for his heroic actions during a highly sensitive military operation in 2012, which saw him perform above and beyond the call of duty. Despite being injured by 3 grenade blasts, he continued in his duties and remained close to his handler.

The PDSA Dickin Medal was introduced by @teampdsa's founder, Maria Dickin, in 1943. It is the highest award any animal can achieve while serving in military conflict.
