Nov 4th, 1992--
A quarter of a century ago, this beautiful woman gave birth to a daughter-- her biggest baby, 9lbs 15oz. And on this same day, 23 years later, that daughter would be in labor with her first child.
When my mom finally arrived as I was laboring to give birth to Spurgeon, the first words out of my mouth were "HOW ON EARTH DID YOU DO THIS 19 TIMES?!" And I'm pretty sure the next words from my mouth were me telling Ben that I wanted the epidural after all, and P.S. "We won't be having any more kids." Once my baby was born though, I understood the reality of these words of Jesus: "When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world." - John 16:21
Thank you, Mama, for laying down your life for me, not only on this day 25 years ago, but also every day of raising me thereafter. I know I was probably your most strong-willed and hard-headed child, and it took a lot of patience to deal with me and love me through all my craziness. Thank you for reading the Bible to us, memorizing scriptures with us, and for showing us Christ from a young age. You are my hero, and I thank God that I get to call you my Mama.
