Abstract Expressionist painter Al Held was born on this day in 1928. His work "Untitled Y" (1960) from our collection, bears the geometric clarity, sharpened contours, and impressive scale that characterized his work in the early 1960s. Though Held became associated with Hard-edge painters like Ellsworth Kelly and Frank Stella, a heavier impasto would differentiate him from his contemporaries. #GuggenheimCollection
