There's a lot of debate right now about what it means to be American. For me, seeing so many people unite in peaceful protest is the most powerful contender for patriotic representation. This is not about standing with Trump or kneeling in protest of Trump. The protest is, and will always be, about the inequality in the US and its systemic racism against black people. Anyone who looks at sports as a place where politics should be put aside can only do so if they have the privilege to bypass the issues being protested. Thank you to all of those who came together to send a clear message that a petty bully cannot squash the spirit of the movement. In fact, he's clarified it. Proud to be American.
