Greetings one & all There I was enjoying a nice family vacation in BC when my fiancé Oceane started becoming rather ill. After an initial misdiagnosis from one doctor, a few days later on a far flung western isle, we were told by another doctor to get to a hospital ASAP. Upon arrival, Oceane was diagnosed with a blood infection. Back in July she had surgery and it was generally agreed she had contracted the infection then. (That 2-4% that gets an infection in a hospital...) The ensuing treatments became more complex resulting in open heart surgery. More complications have ensued since and quite frankly it's been a nightmare. She's been to hell and back and I've been along for the ride. One of those times in life when you look at what you have with a person and realize you have to cherish every minute. Every minute. Life hangs by a thread. Now we could talk all day about Western medicine and the American healthcare system, but one thing I have to say is the dedication of the doctors and nurses has been amazing to witness. We've spent days and days with them over the last month and it’s been truly inspiring. I took this picture at the nurses station in the hospital this week and I think it shows what drives these amazing people: Service. Service to individuals. Service to community. Service we can not live without. So thank you to all those people that are helping my fiance down a very bumpy road. One day soon, when this is all over, I want to take her away to finish that rudely interrupted vacation. And when we do, these people will be very much on our minds…. Enjoy your day. Cherish your loved ones. XoxoX
