This month marks 7 years of being based in New York City. ⠀⠀ Feels like not that long ago,I arrived here knowing absolutely nothing, about how this city worked. It was the most crowded place I had ever been, but in the early days, was the most loneliest. ⠀⠀ All too soon, it was all too hard, I was about to pack my bags & move back to Sydney.My clairvoyant in Australia, who I speak with religiously once a month, told me to sit tight, that I would soon meet a girl named Freya who works in PR or events,in NYC, and she would have a huge impact on my life. IN Feb 2011, I met a girl named Freya who works in events & she & I haven’t really left each others side since we met. She is the reason I stayed in NYC. ⠀⠀ The group of friends I have in NYC are the newest members of my family. ⠀⠀ I have learnt a street sense that I think only comes from time in NYC. ⠀⠀ I have been flashed countless times on the street, most of those times are from Jimmy, who reside 2 blocks from my house in the Meatpacking District & has built a house under blankets strewn across two shopping carts. His pickup line, to every female that passes can be heard from the half way down the block. ‘HEY! YOU WANT A PIECE OF JIMMY’S JOHNNY?!’. As far as I’m aware, his strike rate is yet to see any runs on the board,but I appreciate his consistency & dedication. ⠀⠀ I have been in-love here once, and had my heart broken 3 times. ⠀⠀ I have had more business failures in the USA,than successes.It’s a fucking hard market,& I have learnt (the long,& hard way) that ‘surrendering & redirecting’ is very different to ‘giving up & retreating’. ⠀⠀ The energy in NYC is electric, and like no other city in the world. It can hug you super tight, with warm open arms in the morning, and kick your ass with face-planting force that afternoon. It does that to keep you on your toes. The city has no time for anyone fucking around idly.
