1. A northern sea lion pup (Eumetopias jubatus, or ‘todo’ in Japanese) takes a rest on a rock. Seeing marine mammals and seabirds up close is a big feature of kayaking around the peninsula.

2. While it’s most common to view Furepe Waterfall from the clifftop path, taking a sea kayak offers a chance to come face-to-face with the scale of the cliff and the falls.
