Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, had a passion for roses. In 1799, seven miles west of Paris, she created the greatest rose garden Europe had ever known at her renowned Château de Malmaison. During this time, Joséphine commissioned the botanical artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté to document each of her beloved plants in what is now considered to be one of the greatest botanical works of all time, a sumptuous two-volume book of illustrations entitled Les Roses. This work was the inspiration for our latest collaboration with @erwinpearl. Coming soon! #nybgshop
