My grandpa was my dad for all intents and purposes. Here he is- guarding over me as I sleep, kitten on tummy, arm resting on a pile of stuffed animals. He would do silly voices, sneak me candy, pretend to be asleep when we were annoying him & generally be the best. He held your hand so tightly that we called it, "the claw." I think a lot of grandpas & family members fill in the gaps for biological dads who are ill-equipped or unable to parent well. I'm so grateful that Papa made it to 95 but, boy, do I wish he was still here with us today.
