"As I entered the Virupaksha Temple in Hampi, I could hear people cheering in excitement. Intrigued, I went closer to find out more and there she was - Lakshmi. Lakshmi, the resident elephant of Virupaksha temple, starts her day with a bath in the mighty Tungabhadra River. Then, her forehead is decorated with ash and kumkum before the visitors queue to receive her blessings. With each blessing, she gently lifts her trunk and places it on the person's head with warm touch of tenderness. It was quite the experience." Image captured by Soumik Ray, @soumikray on Instagram.
