In this picture, for example, appreciate the slight curvature of the hour, minute, and seconds hands. The bending of the hands is done manually by Grand Seiko watchmakers as the last step of the manufacturing process, after the hands have been diamond-cut and polished to a mirror finish and, in the case of the seconds hand, heated to blue. The purpose of that bending is to increase legibility, diminishing the chance of distortions regardless of which angle you look at the watch. Now imagine bending those tiny little pieces of metal to that level of precision? Worse: Overdo it by just a notch and the entire hand is rendered useless, destined to the scrap box.
