Meet the awesome Jason Yeo ( @jasonsonnyd ) of @Vervecoffee , Castro. He's been a barista for 2 years and nailing the art of "latte art" ...his specialty is the rosetta . I met Jason about a year ago at a different SF cafe that I also love. So it was nice to catch up with him and got to ask him some questions about his life as a barista.
What about being a barista you like the most? -What I like most about being a barista is being able to provide a unique and meaningful experience to people through a simple yet impactful product. Coffee is something that resonates with people from a variety of different backgrounds and it has been endlessly fascinating so far to meet all these people through the work I do." Why SF?
-I am in San Francisco primarily because of school but also because of the opportunities it provided me within the coffee industry.
Tell me the first moment you wanted to be a barista ?
-The first moment I wanted to be a barista was when I moved closer to the city for school. I worked at a small coffee shop in the back of a Christian bookstore before I moved to the city and I realized making coffee and interacting with people was fun so I thought a good way to keep myself busy while I’m away from home was to work as a barista. And San Francisco was a great place to get more experienced and skilled at the sheer craft of coffee.
Future goals?
-Some short term goals would be to get more involved within the coffee industry and hopefully jump into other things such as roasting or being a coffee educator. My long term goal is to open up my own shop one day.
If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?
-If I could do anything right now it would be to drive on a long road trip across the country to try all kinds of foods and cuisines (Texas barbeque, Louisiana cajun food, New York pizza, etc.). #sfbaristaseries #wheretocoffeeinsf
