Here's what the old quarter of Mosul looked like from the top of a mosque when I went to Iraq following in the footsteps of Marco Polo's Silk Road Journey for natgeo 15 years ago. I made the comment in my captions back then that it seemed little had changed since Marco's visit in the 13th century.
