Unloading a rice barge at Dawwah Jetty in Mandalay, has to be one of the world's toughest jobs. These laborers, each carry one or two 50kg sacks of rice - for most that's more than they weigh. To tally their wages, the man squatting in the bottom left, counts the number of bags they carry by the number of sticks they drop in front of him, one per bag as they deposit their loads up the ramp. Dawwah is the busiest jetty in the busiest port on the Irrawaddy. #Onassignment for The Nature Conservancy.
