The 1980s was a boom time for art and for fashion. Yves Saint Laurent combined his passion for both (in 2009 the designer’s art collection, amassed with Pierre Bergé, sold for $484 million) in a 1988 couture collection inspired by the French painter, and pioneer of Cubism, Georges Braque. Irving Penn photographed Saint Laurent’s flight of fancy on the designer’s muse, Katoucha Niane, for the April 1988 issue of Vogue.
