So this is my post about mental health. This tour we have been talking about #mentalhealth Raising money for @mindcharity and trying to lower the stigma associated with talking about it. Thank u for all the amazing donations and for buying these shirts which were also a donation! I am so used to talking about being 'crazy', my OCD, my anxiety, bouts of depression, the tangle in my brain that makes it difficult to get out of bed or lock the door 3 times. I guess I didn't realize how rare it is to talk about this for some of you, how important it has been to have a space and a voice dedicated to it. I feel like most artists and musicians have mental heath issues and we talk about it a lot, it's basically why we make art right? Having mental health issues is totally ok and normal. @brigitteaphrodite describes it best as her 'beautiful black dog and frenemy.' She says 'it's beautiful because I am beautiful. Depression isn't beautiful...it's shit, it doesn't mean that it can't change though, I accept that it's part of who I am and I'm still bloody beautiful!' Words from my friend that ring in my ears anytime things get rough. I have been so moved by the stories you have shared w me on this tour. I had no idea how many of you have felt so alone and I am totally here and unafraid to be vocal about this issue! We are all crazy, we are all human and we are all fragile. Be proud of who you are, the difficult, ugly, monstrous parts of you are still you. Learn how to manage them, how to deal with them, how to treat them and how to live with them and life can become a safer and happier place. Fight on and stay mentally strong. Reach out to your local @mindcharity if you are looking for help. Do not shy away! Do not isolate and do not be afraid to open up and ask for help. Thanks to my sister @hnashette for inspiring me to do this! She is running a marathon for Mind on April 9th in Brighton! If you would like to donate, the link to her go fund me is in my profile. We both have mental health issues and have both lost friends to suicide. This inspired her to do something positive in light of darkness. There is always light, don't give up! "Keep on holding on" ???
