Wooooaaah! #tbt Me as a young ?! Haha crazy! I watched the #brits every year on tv growing up so it was extremely surreal to be up on that stage collecting that award. I was so nervous and completely overwhelmed. I remember being really worried about falling over in my heels and I remember looking out at Earl's Court and thinking 'fuck, the last time I was here was to see the foo fighters'. Although so much has changed for me since 2007/8, I can still strongly reiterate what I said then NOW! ; That attending the Brit School, a free performing arts school, gave me the foundation (?) I needed to start a career in the music industry. It developed the guts and passion that I have needed to be an artist. Free arts in education is so vital!!! Not all of us are academic and that is ok! You can still be brilliant! The Brit School made me feel excited, it developed my passion, my confidence and my interest in the arts, it made me feel smart and like I could still succeed even though I felt I couldn't sit in a classroom. I didn't have the energy and the patience for the ways I was taught before that, I would daydream and felt I didn't understand, I found it hard to concentrate. But at the Brit School I left school every night at 11.00 pm, we would be kicked out of the school because we never wanted to leave. We would get in as early as we could and stay as late as we were allowed. I felt so inspired there. I'm so grateful for it. And yep, I'm finding myself still defined by my sex, Female is NOT a genre yet people are still putting us into those boxes. Such a young South London influenced britter here! I'm so proud of my roots, where I am from and how far I have come. I'm excited to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of #madeofbricks with you this year and to release new music ?❤️
