5,000 houses will be developed in the orange box. Prepare for mega construction, densely increased road traffic, air pollution, noise pollution, light pollution. Hundreds of people showed up today in red to protest. 130 people voiced their disdain for this proposal in front of the board, including profound and compelling arguments from @アレックス・オノルド and @roseyrex, among professors, biologists, lawyers, kids, war veterans, the list goes on. We were at the government building for hours. The result of today feels abysmal. This development project is wrong for so many reasons, but what I can't comprehend the most is why? It's so unnecessary. There are thousands of vacant homes across the Las Vegas Valley, and more being built every day. Why do we need this development? Why does Jim Rhodes need MORE? The homes atop of this mountain will become a hideous eyesore compared to the painted cliffs it mirrors. Traffic will become more outrageous than it already is, roads will need to be widened, aside from the displacement of desert wildlife. And did I mention the noise, the lights, and the obstructed view? Why? The almost 50,000 people who signed the petition opposing this plan want to know. The commissioners may have voted in favor of proceeding, but this did NOT win the popular vote. Seems like a trend. I'm baffled and heartbroken, and still waiting for an answer.
