Our #TateShots team is making a film about Lebanese artist Marwan Rechmaoui and we want to know: What question would you like to ask him about his art and how living in Beirut informs his practice?
Initially trained as an architect, Rechmaoui’s work often deals with architecture and the urban environment in Beirut, the city he lives in, as well as the history of Lebanon and the Middle East. In 'Beirut Caoutchouc' (Rubber Beirut) 2004-8, a large floor based map of the city, the artist examines the physical and social formation of one of the world’s most conflicted cities by removing all the significant points of reference and borders that defined it during Lebanese civil war.
