Internet middlemen help ordinary people share cars and apartments. Why not cattle? Becky Harlow Weed, who operates a 320-acre cattle farm in Spanaway, Washington, sells most of the cattle she raises through @crowdcow, a Seattle start-up that allows small ranchers to sell whole cows online. Tapping into a growing public demand for high-quality beef from small producers, ranchers butcher manageable orders, usually about 10 to 12 pounds, and deliver them to homes as frozen, vacuum-sealed cuts. The concept is starting to catch on with beef connoisseurs and small ranchers, who’d rather spend time ranching than doing all the work required to sell beef directly to customers. Last month, @fremson photographed Becky with one of her cows. Follow @nytfood to see more. #?
