High on a wall inside Tweet Restaurant in Chicago hangs a portrait of President @Barack Obama taken by the Chicago photographer @dawoudbey. #Obama was a Senator when the portrait was taken. When voters first sent him to the @The White House, an explosion of T-shirts and kitschy wares could be bought all over Chicago’s South Side. The pride in the president and his photogenic family — a wife and 2 daughters with winsome smiles — was palpable. Today, in black homes and businesses in Chicago, pictures of the president blend in with family photos, as if Obama is a cousin or nephew who made good. There are magazine covers and paperweights and old Obama Christmas cards. One barbershop has a mini-shrine nailed to the mirror. #NYTOpinion asks: Do you have Obama mementos on display in your home? Share your own photo with the hashtag #ObamaMementos.
