Fact #3: Fannette Island became a National Natural Landmark in 1969. The glacier carved granite rises 150 feet above the water, and is believed to be the sole reason the island has stood the test of time. A small castle like structure sits at the island's peak, where the famous Mrs. Knight of the Vikingsholm Mansion would occasionally take guests for tea in the late 1920's.
