@marcusbleasdale for our 125th anniversary issue we investigated conflict minerals in Congo. The deadly trade in conflict minerals that go into our tech devices and jewelry has devastated eastern #Congo, as armed groups and army units have made hundreds of millions from controlling mines and trading routes. There has been major progress on this issue, as 79% of tin, tantalum, and tungsten miners in eastern Congo now work at conflict-free mines, according to IPIS, but gold is still a huge problem, with 64% of gold miners working at conflict mines. This Friday, a film about activism on this issue will premiere on television, #MerciCongo. It features inspiring Congolese and western activists and it shows that activism can make a difference, as @インテル's CEO starts to get the message.
