The #CardiffKook statue, as it’s popularly known, poses on the boardwalk in Encinitas, CA. Commissioned by the town’s Botanical Society, it’s a muse for locals and tourists who dress up the male surfer for every occasion imaginable from birthdays to holidays to marriage proposals.
Bryan Laffitte, the Director of Discovery Pharmacology at our Genomics Institute, celebrates with his own scientist “Kook” before his daily surf. His friends dressed up the surfer in lab gear to celebrate the Novartis VIVA Award he and his team won for their discovery and pre-clinical developments in treating liver disease. Congrats to Bryan and his team!
