In the world of seahorses, it’s not the mom who gives birth…it’s the dad! This proud papa dwarf seahorse recently gave birth to 20 babies here at @smithsoniansms. For a sense of scale, the male is about an inch long, while each of the babies are smaller than a grain of rice.
The Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit specializes in modeling Florida’s local habitats, including those of the #IndianRiverLagoon, one of the most diverse estuaries in North America. The lagoon is home to three species of seahorses, including the dwarf seahorses seen here. Follow us this week as we take over @スミソニアン博物館! #seahorse
