The sexy witch #Halloween costume isn't new.
It goes back to the early 1900s, a time when women were taking control of their destinies—and Halloween attire. Instead of the warty, scary witches of yore, the New Woman played on the power of the witch. She could control the future, make her own choices about romance, and be both strong and attractive.
She can be seen in this 1899 campaign for Pears' Soaps, now in our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館's business collection.
