#BecauseIWasAGirl I was told I couldn’t play with the boys. ? “I was 4, it was summer, and we were on my friend Bobby’s front porch,” recalled Jessica Mallett, 41. “We were playing with action figures. I was handed the Princess Leia figurine and told I HAD to be her because I was a girl. I threw the figurine into the yard. Told him to go get it. Then I picked up the Wookiee, because some days, you want to be a Wookiee. I wanted the option.” In the days leading up to the presidential election, there was a distinct possibility that a 227-year-old gender barrier would be hurdled.
