Photo: @クリス・バーカード The geological phenomena of sailing stones across a desert floor amazes me. The occurrence is natural and often, with the absence of human intervention. On hot days, the sun melts frozen ice sheets created from the night before, forming a movable pond-like surface under the rock. The slightest breeze ables migration, and as the valley winds pick up, these stones are able to travel up to 5 meters per minute! These desert floors harbor some of the most amazing natural occurrences in the world, but was recently vandalized by someone out for a joyride in an SUV. I would like to think that everyone who follows this page would consider how we can treat places with more respect and leave them better than we found them. The best way to preserve is to educate.
