This ballot from the 1896 presidential election includes a symbol for each party. (That's a fountain with fresh water for the Prohibition ticket!) In that race, the main candidates were Republican William McKinley and Democrat William Jennings Bryan.
To vote a "straight ticket" (voting for all the candidates of one party), voters just marked an "x" in the circle below that party's symbol. There was also space for write-ins in the column to the right.
