Photo by @jenniferhayesig Sunset casts a golden glow through a shallow forest of elkhorn coral in Gardens of the Queen National Park, Cuba. Elkhorn coral is a critically endangered species throughout it's range but dense populations of this nearly extinct coral thrive in this remote marine preserve located fifty miles off the southern coast of Cuba. Gardens of the Queen is a rare living museum in the Caribbean and an example that determined vigilence and patrols within marine protected areas works. Now the world marine community needs to recognize and support Cuba's conservation efforts as they stand in the path of increased tourism.
